  • What if I don’t have insurance or can't afford the dentist?

While we are in-network with most PPO insurances, patients who do NOT have traditional dental insurance are offered a cost-effective, in-house alternative that allows them to receive the preventative and restorative dental care they need without compromising quality or breaking the bank. We also accept flexible financing with CareCredit. Call us to learn more!

  • What is a “Total Health” approach to dental medicine?

At Contemporary Dental Design, we focus on your well-being, recognizing that your total body health starts with a healthy smile. Due to recent studies, there is a strong association between periodontal (gum) disease and cardiovascular disease. Periodontal pathogens and inflammation can enter the bloodstream through the gums, contributing to systemic inflammation and potentially increasing the risk of developing or exacerbating cardiovascular problems such as atherosclerosis (plaque buildup in the arteries).

We evaluate the condition of the teeth and gums and assess for signs of inflammation, infection, or other oral health issues that may contribute to systemic inflammation and cardiovascular risk. Using individualized and genetically guided therapies, we can locate and eliminate specific bacteria that are often underlying causes of arterial inflammation and other ailments.

  • What is periodontal disease? Are there signs I may have it?

Also known as gum disease, periodontal disease is primarily caused by plaque and bacteria buildup that remains untreated in its early stages. Other contributing factors include tobacco use, teeth grinding, certain medications, and genetic predisposition.

Gingivitis marks the initial stage of gum disease and, if identified early, is treatable. However, untreated gingivitis can progress into more severe forms of gum disease. Advanced gum disease can result in tooth and bone loss, which is irreversible.

Maintaining regular oral hygiene practices such as brushing your teeth regularly and visiting the dentist every six months can help prevent gingivitis and more severe cases of periodontal disease. Common signs of gum disease include:

    • Red, irritated, bleeding, or swollen gums
    • Chronic bad breath
    • Loose teeth or tooth loss
    • Extreme tooth sensitivity
    • Receding gum line
    • Abscessed teeth
  • I felt severe pain and was thinking of coming in, but it went away on its own after a day or two. Should I still come in?

Absolutely! If you experience severe nerve pain, seeing your dentist as soon as possible is crucial, even if the pain subsides on its own. Subsiding pain doesn't necessarily mean the underlying issue is resolved. Severe dental pain could indicate problems like infection, tooth decay, gum disease, or a cracked tooth. Leaving these issues untreated could lead to further complications. It's always best to address dental pain promptly to prevent worsening conditions.

  • What can I expect during a routine dental check-up?

During a routine check-up, we will examine your teeth and gums for signs of decay, gum disease, or other oral health issues. X-rays may be taken to detect any hidden problems. Your teeth will also be professionally cleaned to remove plaque and tartar buildup.

  • What is CareCredit and how does it work?

We are proud to be a CareCredit provider! CareCredit is a healthcare credit card designed to help individuals finance out-of-pocket healthcare expenses. It allows patients to spread the cost of their healthcare treatments over time, making it more manageable to afford necessary dental procedures.

Patients can apply for CareCredit either online or in the dental office. The application process typically involves providing personal information and financial details. Upon approval, patients are assigned a credit limit, representing the maximum amount they can borrow through CareCredit for their dental expenses.

CareCredit offers various payment plans with different repayment terms. Patients can choose a repayment plan that fits their budget, with options ranging from short-term plans to longer-term plans. For more information, visit https://www.carecredit.com/.
